He did it with his heart, with his expression and with his consistent behavior. He touched my heart (and I am sure the heart of my brothers and maybe others) and impacted my life in a way that no one else has ever done.
When he died, a great deal of emotions took me over, and as I thought about him and his life, these were the words that came out of my heart, which are now engraved in his tomb stone in Italy. From that day on, every time I read these words I cry profusely in a way that I can’t control or describe. These words put me right in touch with him and with the way I remember him. Today I thought of translating these words for his grand children who don’t understand Italian well enough to appreciate the meaning:
This is my translation:
“Thank you Dad for the great gift you left to all of us: The example of a good & simple life but full of dignity, morals and strong values. The strength and firmness of your guide that supported us in moments of need and stopped in moments of trouble & euphoria; and thank you for the intensity of your feelings that you guarded silently and kept hidden most of the times, but that you always transmitted to us with so much intensity that touched the bottom of our hearts in the deepest possible way.”
